How do I test whether the T/P relief valve on my electric water heater is working properly?
One of the two drain pipes from my hot water heater is leaking. What should I do?
We just bought our house brand new ten months ago. On our builders walk through I remember the builder pointing out two short PVC pipes on the outside of the house. One is about 8 feet up the wall and the other is about 8 inches off the ground. He said it's very bad if the top one starts leaking. Thankfully that one is not leaking. But the lower one has started dripping within the last month. It's a pretty consistent drip about 1 drop second and has thoroughly saturated the ground below it. Is this a bad sign or do I need to do anything at all? We did just hook up a sprinkler system for our backyard around the time this started. Not sure if that's related. Thanks for any info.
Hot water heater not producing hot water. What is best to do?
About 10 years old. No hot water, period. It had been used constantly. When I reset the temperature to see if I could get the water to heat again there were two thermostat setting. The upper one was set for 130 ? and the lower was was essentially off. Would this have put more strain on the upper therm?Anyway, can I fix it myself or is it better to go buy a new hot water tank?

I am moving out of my house and having my water turned off. My home is going to be vacant for at least a month. How can I safely turn off my gas hot water heater? I am leaving my gas and electric ON so the sump pump can run, but I don't want the hot water heater going. What do I need to do?Where I live, the gas and electric are all the same company, and you cannot shut off one without shutting off both...stupid I know.

and replaced the drain. Well, ever since, I've been having trouble keeping the burner on. The pilot comes on and so does the burner but then after about 30 60 minutes, the flame on the burner dies but the pilot light stays on. I've replaced the thermocouple, vacuumed out the inside after removing the burner and cleaned off the burner, but it still won't stay on. I hope I don't need to replace the gas control valve. Please help

Water heater problem?
I am working on a water heater that would not stay lit after it reached its temperature. I replaced the thermo couple and it stayed on longer but then shut off again. I then changed out the gas thermostat control, however, the home owner bought a used one since he could not find a new one at any of the local stores and ordering one would take too long. The heater lights on, but shuts off almost immediately, it looks like its starving for gas. Perhaps it may be the control since it was purchased used?
