My gas hot water heater not maintaining temperature over long periods of non-use?
It's been slowly getting worse, now it's getting to the point where over a day the water will barely be hot enough to run the kids' showers in the evening. Overnight is worse, it's often not quite hot enough for a shower first thing in the morning. If I run hot water for a bit do dishes, wash laundry, etc then it " wakes up" and is fine... for a few hours. Then same thing starts up. We were gone for the weekend and it was barely warm enough for a shower when we got home last night.

What's wrong with my electric water heater?
I have replaced the upper and lower thermostats now, and when I turn the power back on I can hear the heating elements like how a tea kettle sounds when water is heating up . The next day the water is back to being only luke warm at the hottest. In addition to this, when I changed the lower thermostat, I noticed a very small amount of water dripping from the bottom screw hole of the lower thermostat and heating element service panel. It seemed almost like it could be from condensation, but I'm not sure. I have not yet replaced either heating element. The unit is only 3 years old. Any ideas on what the drip could be from, and why it is not heating up?
Is it a problem if the hot water outlet on my water heater is always hot?
I had my house checked for natural gas leaks. The tech said the problem might be my water heater. He said first thing in the morning to feel the hot water outlet on the top of my water heater and if it was warm there was probably a problem with my water heater. Anybody know what he's talking about? There aren't any obvious leaks so I don't want to pay a plumber if I don't have to.
