How much does electric heating cost?
Im moving into a place for University that has electric heating, and on top of my rent i need to pay electricity. Can the Devimat underfloor electric heating mat be used on two different levels?
I am putting in a new bathroom which includes an Impey Aquadec. Due to flooring drainage restrictions we could not have the aquadec flush with the floor. As such we built a frame 6 inches high to place the aquadec. We are now intending to put the Devimat underfloor heating into the bathroom and was wondering if it would be OK for it to cover the raised shower tray as well at the bathroom floor. I know that the instructions state that it should be kept on the same level but would a 6 inch raise cause any problems?

Cost of converting electric heating to gas heating in a home?
The home is all electric. I want to save money by converting my heating mechanisms to natural gas. I want to run gas lines to the home to convert the stove and water heater to gas.The entire subdivision is on electric so I know it will be costly to get a gas connection to the house. I was hoping to get some rough estimates on just how much it would cost to run gas lines from less than a mile away to the home and how much it would be to convert the stove and water heater. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
How do I calculate electric heating requirements for a room?
Is electric heating or oil heating the best option?
I'm in the process of buying a 2 bed terraced house with a partially complete loft conversion. The only heating is very basic electric heaters and I'm thinking of updating. I've had oil heating before but the cost of oil prices is putting me off, plus the hassel of installation and piping etc. I've seen some excellent electric heaters on the web by various companies that are essentially either oil or water filled with thermostats, timers etc and would like to konw if anyone can advise what they have had and of the pros cons.Could you also tell me what has been most cost effective for you?

Is it worth replacing my old gas boiler with an electric heating system?
With the increasing prices in gas and oil and depleting stocks, is it worth replacing my gas boiler with an electric system? My current boiler is old 80s and we plan to change it, is this a optimum time to change to electric? For how much longer will using gas be cheaper than electric?

Home heating oil versus electric heat?
With home heating oil averaging 60 p per litre, plus the electric to run it.How does it compare to using electric heat? As in a electric fire or equivalent? I know it only heats one room at a time. Most times like in the morning that is all you need?Ok... so has anybody lately done the math ?Take your average 3 bedroom house and what it takes per ltr plus electric to heat per hr in heating oil.Take the average halogen heater ...What does it take to run it per hr?Any takers?
Electric heat bill way too high!?
I'll try to make this short. Moved into a seasonal rental while we get rid of mold in our home. One story, appx 1000 square feet two small bedrooms, 1 bath, living room, kitchen. It has exclusive electric heat no gas or oil , new ish washer dryer and new water heater. Kitchen appliances only 4 years old. The first month, our electirc bill was $300. We thought that was high, but we paid it. This was back in November, when we had temps averaging 40 50, so the heat was never programmed above 54. Second month, we used the pellet stove to cut back on the heating bill and it jumped to $384 I changed all of the bulbs to the energy efficient ones, unplugged almost everything, cleaned the fridge coils, dryer vents, lights off almost always. We work FT so no one is even here from 7 5 and we go to bed around 10pm. We only have one cable box plugged in, NO fish tanks or desktop computers. The electric heat was set at 54, just to keep the pipes from freezing. This last month, in the mildest winter in New England history, our bill was $678 I am going insane I was religious about being more energy efficient and we have never put the heat above 64 there were some chilly nights . The electric company is no help. Our landlord hopes to have someone here by Wednesday but I am just going out of my mind trying to think of what's going on here NStar said they will do a payment plan with us, but because they THINK we are averaging 2700 kWs a month they want $300 down and $500 month It's crazy I read that the average family of 4 only uses 1000 kWs a month so does anyone have any suggestions about what may be going on here? Thanks in advance
