Residential Electric Water Heater Problem Repair And Reviews
Free advice on electric water heater problems
What is causing the circuit breaker to trip after installing electric water heater?
We had a water heater installed electric Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday morning the water was hot. throughout the day and extra hot I might add. The manual said the water heater was factory set at 120 125 degrees. Here it is Thursday and our water is warm all day and tonight the water has turned to cold only. I checked the breaker box and found the breaker is tripped? I am not using anything tonight to use hot water. Do you think the water will get hot again. Why does it trip the breaker. It is a 40 gal the same as before and the other one is maybe 12 years old.
How long does an electric water heater last?
Just asking for general answers. How long will an electric water heater last before it will need replacing?
The lower element on my electric water heater was submerged in a flood...now doesn't work. Thermostat?
Our water main broke and filled up most of the crawl space storm shelter under our house. Now, 3 days and $850 later, I have water again. I go to take a much needed shower, and hot water runs out very quickly. Hot at first, but gone quickly. I go under the house, and it seems the lower element which was under water for at least a couple days before the problem was discovered isn't kicking on. The water heater is less than a year old...has worked fine through its life. I have a multi meter and am confortable using it...but I didn't have a chance to test it last night. I'm going to try to tackle the problem tonight. Though I haven't tested anything yet, I suspect the lower thermostat which was submerged is the source of the problem, and I can get a replacement at Lowe's for about $10. Any guesses on the problem? Does the thermostat seem likely, or some other wiring problem? Any guidance on testing?I've checked the circuit breaker it's not tripped. It is a single switch for the double block breaker, so the whole thing would trip if there were problem with the power supply to the lower element. Right?
Where do you attach the copper ground wire to a 15 gal electric water heater?
I have a 15 gallon 120v water heater. I am using 10 2 wire, but where does the copper ground attach?
Need help with electric water heater and sinks!?
For the past month I have noticed a smell coming from the closet where our electric water heater is and now I've linked that the smell under the kitchen sink and the bathroom sink is the same. I think it smells sorta like natural gas, but this can't really be because everything in our apartment is electric. Any ideas on what this could be?
Would I likely save money doing this with my electric water heater?
I usually only use hot water within a 3 hour time frame each day. That is 3 consecutive hours and not 3 hours scattered throughout the day. It takes about a half hour for my electric water heater to heat up. If I turned off my water heater for 20 straight hours a day would I likely save money by doing that, or would having to reheat the tank instead of steadily heating it throughout the day use more energy? Mind you, I've done this one day just to see how cold the water gets at the end of 20 hours and it is still warm, so it isn't as though the water heater would be heating up cold water.
Replaced upper element in electric water heater.after 1 use reset button tripped. now what should I try?
Advice about on-demand electric water heaters?
I'm considering replacing my conventional electric water heater with a tankless on demand model. I like the idea of having as much hot water as I need, and I like that I don't have to provide energy to heat water when it isn't being used. How much can I expect to save, energy wise, with a two bathroom house with average hot water usage? We have three adults and two children in the house. Also, do tankless water heaters qualify for a tax credit?
What would be a fair price to pay someone to (I have a new one) install an electric water heater?
I bought a new one I just need them to remove the old one and put in my new one. Also, if it makes a difference, its for a mobile home.

Electric water Heater Smells Like It's Burning?
Yesterday while taking a shower, I noticed that I lost my hot water quicker than normal. I didn't really think anything of it, but later in the night realized I still didn't have any hot water. I inspected the rest of the faucets in the apartment, and no hot water to be found. I called maintenance this morning, and they came out and fixed it. They didn't tell me exactly what they did, but said that I should have hot water again in about half an hour. I went upstairs, and about 20 minutes after they left I began to smell something burning. I came down, and sure enough it was coming from the water heater, but I couldn't see any smoke and nothing felt hot just smelled like burning. I flipped the breaker switch to the heater and called maintenance back. They returned, said they couldn't find anything wrong, but changed the thermostat as it was the only thing they thought could be causing it. They left leaving the 2 cover plates off for reasons i dont know, just said " don't put your fingers in there" , and now its about an hour and a half later, and I can still smell the burning. It's no worse than before, and again, no smoke, it just seems like it never went away from before. Should I be concerned about this, or is it just a residual burning smell from whatever caused it earlier in the day? At what point should I worry that I can still smell the burning?
Electric Water Heater and Cold Shower?
We had an electric water heater installed over a year ago. For the past 3 months while taking a shower it turns cold after about 3 minutes. This also happens in another bathroom while our girls are showering. It doesn't matter if you are the first shower of the day or last. We were told that if the water doesn't flow at a certain rate then the unit doesn't think it needs to heat anymore, so my husband wants to replace our shower heads. He already checked the pressure in the house and it was fine. I told him it's the heating element. Anyone else ever have this problem and if so, what is the answer?Let me add that after the water turns cold, the hot water does return but only after 45 to 60 seconds. Note This is one of those new electric waterless heaters that's the size of a large shirt box.
6 Gallon Electric Water Heater?
We were demo ing out a factory and my boss let me keep a 6 gallon electric " Bradford White" water heater. As I understand this is not much use for even a small house so what is the ideal use for it. For example motor home? can it work for just taking a couple showers a day? how much electricity do they run up? Any opinion from a person who is fairly knowledgeable in this area will help.Thank You
