How much does it cost to operate a natural gas water heater?
In an one person apartment household where the only gas powered appliance is a 40 gallon tank water heater, approximately how much would the monthly gas bill be? Obviously it depends on how much hot water one uses and the temperature it's set at, but just a ball park figure would be much appreciated

What is the minimum supply line (i.d.) for a natural gas water heater and a gas stove?
These will be on the same branch. The water heater is 6 feet from the main 1" supply line and the added gas stove will be 35 running feet from the water heater. Thanks for you input.
Does a natural gas water heater have to be leveled when installed?
Im buying a brand new house. And we noticed that the hot water heater in the garage is sitting on a base that the builder made. Well the water heater is not sitting level. It isnt to a falling off point, but just looking at it you can tell that it isnt straight. Now my walk through is next week for the final before I close. Is there anywhere that I can look at that will tell me that a hot water heater has to be installed level, if not this will happen??? I basically need a documented reason to tell them. Let me know.
I need advice on a natural gas water heater?
I had a Whirlpool that gave out ofter two and a half years. I got a cred it at Lowes for the current full price, but decided to buy elsewhere since 96 out of 98 reviews were a 1 star and everyone is or has had the same problems. I had a Rheem put in and after 4 trips out I am still getting not enough hot water that I need to turn my cold on. They wanted to come replace more parts, and when I asked for a new unit they said they just want to come get it and let me buy another brand. I want a good brand that will not only last, but will give me hot water when we need it. I looked all over the internet and couldn't find much information from places like consumer reports, etc. I would appreciate any suggestions or stories about good or bad experiences with natural gas water heaters?I have the water heater set at the factory setting which Rheem recommended when I called. The company who installed it told me to put in on the next to the highest setting, but Rheem said that is way too hot and would scald me at 140 degrees. Even at that setting, which the installer tried, I didn't get very much hot water and it gave out before she could take her shower. I had heard AO Smith, but the place I got this one at said they stopped due to problems. And, a lot of articles on the internet gave Bradford White bad rating. Although the Whirlpool gave out, it was great up until it did. I guess it is too much to expect that. The place I got it at offered to come replace more parts, but I am not comfortable with a week old unit that is continually breaking down or needed a part replaced.
Could I hook up a propane gas cylinderfor a grill or RV to my natural gas water heater?
Our gas main busted and we're looking at a few weeks for them to dig up my driveway to fix it. I know this would cost more but what all do I have to do? I've already pulled the line going to the water heater, and I have a lot of fittings, enough to make it hook up clean. That's not the issue. I'm just curious about how much regulation I should put to it, how long you think it would last, would it burn okay without putting off too much harmful gas and so on. Let me know.Anyone know of any good portable water heaters? Hopefully a 110 so I don't have to run a 220 to it.
Does Sam's Club sell natural gas water heaters?
What would cause my natural gas water heater to suddenly not have enough combustion air flow airflow?
It will burn fine with the access door burner unit opened up some, but when it is sealed the flame goes out. There appears to be a sort of damper or other mechanism on the bottom of the combustion area which has become disassembled... Water Heater has ran fine the last six years. Thank you so much It is a GE smartwater 40 gal. cap.I don't know to mark this as resolved, but it is. In the bottom of my water heater there is a mechanism which seems to control a damper of sorts. This mechanism had failed, causing the damper to close.
What is a safe and economical way to vent a natural gas water heater?
I am specifically interested in the material and what section of the hardware store to find it. Due to the variance in the dimensions between the new water heater and the old one, I can t use the old vent. I need a little more length. The vent is 3 inches in diameter. I need a one foot section and three foot section with a flexible elbow connecting the two. The previous vent was very thin sheet metal and it had surface rust on it. The elbow was a corrugated bendable piece. When I went to Lowes, they had vent pieces in the water heater section. But, by the time I bought everything, it would have been close to $50 The ventilation they had looked like a vent within a vent. Do most local codes require this type of venting or is there a more economical way to vent this using something similar to what was there before? Would metal corrugate venting like one used in a clothes dryer work? Safety is critical also. I know sometimes Lowe's sticks it to you with their kits.

Do Natural Gas Water Heaters Use Electricity?
Me and my girlfriend got into a little argument about whether gas water heaters use electricity. I think natural gas water heaters use a little electricity and my girlfriend thinks they don't. On our natural gas water heater there are little wires that lead to a turn able nob that can turn the water heater on and off. I think this is where the electricity is used and she thinks gas runs through them.
