How can I use solar energy to power my portable oil filled heater for my room?
It seems that there is a lot of confusion about how to use solar energy in an everyday setting. I live in an apartment, my bedroom is always cold. I want to use my portable oil filled radiator to heat my room. And since I have exposure to the sun in my bedroom window, I want to use some type of solar panel to power my heater. Is there a unit that I can put in my window that will absorb or charge a battery so I can plug my heater in at night to heat my room so I can sleep?

Can i save money by heating my bedroom with a oil filled heater and turn the gas furnace down?
I am looking to save money. my oldest boys room is downstairs so it is cold and i have a oil filled heater down there for him to keep him warm. i am wondering if i should buy one for my room and turn my natural gas furnace down to save money. i know the electric heater uses tons of electricity because i have a kill a watt meter and the one downstairs uses tons of juice. but i have no way to tell that if i just heated my room and turned my furnace down to say 60 at night if i would save money vs just leaving it at 65 at night because nat gas is cheaper than electricity. i cannot find much info on this. any input is appreciated.im talking about suplementing keeping my room warmer with electric heat and turning my nat gas thermostat down.

i.e. what costs you less to heat a house per month, heater in each room, if so which type, or solid fuel heating which fuels central heating but really cold in the morning after the fire has gone out? Or maybe a bit of both with timer switches on the convector oil filled heaters? Thanks
Oil filled heater and ceramic versus Heat Pump on unit. Which is better?
I have purchased two ceramic heaters and an oil filled heater for use this coming winter. We have a heat pump on our unit and it eats us up in the winter time with heating bills. The heaters that I bought all have thermostats and can be set at 750 or 1500 watts. I did use the oil filled radiant heater some last year and it seemed to help with the bills but the back rooms were cool so I bought the ceramic heaters to use this coming year.We have a small 2 bedroom, one bath house. Less than 900 sq feet.
Which is better at providing more heat? oil-filled heater or ceramic heater?
I've heard the oil filled ones are safer, but which one heat a larger area better?
