We have radiant heat in bsm't & 1st flr - insulating bsmt' ceiling - paper down?
Upstate NY We are insulating the basement ceiling as per code. Insulation always applied w paper towards the living area 1 st floor is technically the living area as the basement is unfinished and will remain unfinished for a while this leaves the insulation exposed in the basement. We have radiant heat in 1st floor and in the concrete of the basement. Thanks
What are the pros and cons of a radiant heat driveway?
What is the maximum floor thickness for wooden floors using radiant heating?
My home is currently being refurbished. It is an older home, about 70 years. I would like to install radiant heating between the floor joists, currently there are three layers of flooring 1 inch thick diagonal rough sawn planking 3 4 inch thick hardwood flooring 1 2 inch thick plywood subfloor. The home is 80 % gutted. Also there will be another finished floor going down what type? My question is this would my radiant heating be greatly improved by removing a layer or two of old flooring? Thank you for any advice you can give me.
How effective & efficient is radiant heat? Is it hard to do it yourself in concrete basement flooring?
We are planning to place it into our concrete flooring in our new basement. My concerns are as follows how efficient is it? is it good for dogs to lay on? or my arthritus? we are skilled construction family there are kits available showing how to lay out the Pex, will they give enough information to do it right? we have excessive lime in our well water, how will that effect it?
Does retrofitted electric radiant heating installed below the sub-floor comply with the building code?
I have seen radiant heat systems that can be installed between the floor joists below the sub floor, rather than the conventional method of installing them prior to installing your tile flooring. I inquired with one of the " conventional method" suppliers as to the " retrofit ability" of their system and was told that it would not meet Code if installed in that manner. Thoughts? btw I'm in Ontario.

Is it possible for radiant heating (heated floors) pipes to burst through the floor?
We have radiant heating heated floors all throughout my house. We have laminate, ceramic, Mohtashem carpeting in one of the bathrooms, and marble flooring. My mother says that if I turn the heat up more than ten degrees at a time, that the pipes will break through the floor. I have laminate wood flooring in my room, and beside my bed I notice that there's a little upward bulge between a few lines. I've never noticed it before. Could this be from turning up the heating too fast?
Trying to understand my radiant heat system?
I have an in floor radiant heat system using water that's heated by a tankless water heater. However, there is also a PEX line running from the top of my main hot water heater tank, which passes through a " Feed Water Pressure Regulator" with the arrow indicating the flow is toward the radiant system. This finally connects to the system just after the outlet from the tankless heater, after the circulator. Does anyone know what the purpose of this connection from the main household hot water tank would be?
Should we install radiant heat? House is 100yrs old just experienced flooding of 4ft on first flr.?
we recently switched from oil to gas last year. Do to the flood, we had to move the big old radiators so the walls could be replaced. Would radiant heat be very costly or should we just put in baseboard? Also, what happens if we flood again with that type of radiation?thanks

Radiant heat wont stay hot?
I live in an older apartment complex building where the heat is through radiators. We have no control and no thermostat. The only control we have is to turn the knob on each radiator and the ones we want on are turned. However, Im hardly getting any heat at all. The radiator feels warm but its not putting out any heat. I dont know why. Ive never have radiant heat before. I will probably call my landlord eventually but I want to make sure its not something Im doing wrong. Can anyone explain how radiant heat works?
