Safer alternative to a space heater?
I'm looking for a safer alternative to a regular space heater, something that isn't as likely to catch fire. Is there something that works like a fan but with heat instead?
What is a good space heater for a large room with no heat source?
I have a finished attic with no heat. Has electrical. I have no idea how to heat it without using something dangerous or inefficient, etc. What should I use? What is a good machine to heat it with...? I would hope to spend as far under $500 as possible.I'm not sure how large the room is as it's an awkward shape... probably a little under 200 square feet.
Connect a gas space heater to gas line from clothes dryer?
We have a huge addition on a house we live in. There is no supplemental heating for the room, and the furnace for the main house is not hot enough or strong enough to heat the HUGE addition. It is cold in the addition feels like a garage . I want to install a wall mounted vent free gas space heater, like this one amazon.com Mr Heater Natural Blue Flame dp B000UPR5TO ref sr 1 1?ie UTF8& qid 1326805855& sr 8 1 The gas line for the clothes dryer is on the wall directly behind where I would like to mount the heater. Is it possible to tap this clothes dryer gas line use a T joint, or some such so that the line would fuel both the space heater and the dryer? Obviously I would need a licensed technician to do this. I would just like to know if it's possible before I go calling people.
800W oil space heater trips circuit breaker after 2.5 yrs of unproblematic use?
I've had this little oil heater max 800W for 2.5 years now and have been using it virtually daily as my only heat source except during summer, obviously , it's always worked just fine. The other day the main ring the only ring in the house circuit tripped, and after a little experimenting it would seem to be caused by my oil heater and it trips the circuit virtually immediately on turning on. Except the first time it happened, when it had been going for most of the evening already. There have been no new appliances added in the house, so I can only assume the wiring to do with the heater itself has somehow got screwed up? How can I find out what exactly is causing this, and is there a way for me to try and fix it? It is a fairly cheap heater, but I'm told these things normally last many years, and I hate replacing appliances if at all avoidable... Any help greatly appreciated Thanks in advance.
If pipes can freeze using space heaters, then what KEEPS them from freezing using an oil furnace?
What happens with furnace heat? Does it go along the pipes under the house? I am considering heating with space heaters alone, but I don't want to do it if it will burst the pipes. It's just so outrageously expensive to buy oil.
Which is more energy efficient: small space heater or small oil-filled plug-in radiator?
I'm trying to decide which I should use more to heat a medium sized room.
How do I wire a clothes dryers heating coil assembly for use as a space heater?
The assembly takes 220v so a 110 outlet will heat it up to a fraction of the operating temp. It has three terminals connected to the heating coils. Is there a way to make it hotter without using the 220? if not then how could i supply 220 to it without a 220 plug? Could I use two 110 plugs on different circuits?thanksHey Kim E.....Summer doesn't last all year and I have already wired the outlets in a series curcuit thereby doubling the voltage to 220 volts. I just wanted to see how pessimistic and under educated the people of this forum were and how they answer questions that they have no business answering.Thank you for the answer
What is the best oil filled space heater?

Plugging in space heater with chewed cord?
So my dog bit on my space heater cord, he is fine, there is just a little opening, none of the wires look messed up. But would it be bad to plug it in? I dont plan on touching the open part of the cord, and im the only person here, no kids or anything to touch it. I just want to know if im safe from burning my house down? and the oil space heater wont explode right? lol tried looking up an answer but could not find any my house's heater does not work, this is the only heater i have for my room. my house is 40 degrees right now. I cant afford a new one. will be getting electrical tape soon though.
About heating spaces with space heaters?
Hello. I was in my basement this winter after Christmas and it was cold. It wasn't as cold as usual but still. I was angry and wanted to take my mind off things and I wanted to spend time in the basement but it was freaking freezing. I then relied my parents had recently bought a space heater that was up in there room that they didn't need because our normal heating system works well on the first floor but not in the basement or second floor However I realized it'd never work because the basement is made up of 3 basically equal parts. imagine a rectangle, now cut it into three more or less equal parts the middles a little bigger then the sides down the long end. basically both side sections are cut into two rooms and the back two rooms are connected to the main room one needs a door replaced and ones a bar I realized this space was to large to heat with a space heater then I had an idea. I built a for out of blankets and heated that instead. I don t really know if it worked since I made a opening for the heater before testing weather or not the output could handle it it could not and it threw the breaker repeatedly. ANY HOW I IF YOU DON T WANT TO READ THE RAMBLING STORY HERE'S THE QUESTION I'm pretty sure that my idea of making a blanket for for the heater to heat thusly making a insulated small space was sound, however I wondered if any one else had any ideas on how to heat the basement with space heaters. This isn't a pressing question it's decently warm down there now however ,and this is the most simplified I can get, For fun can anyone think of a way to us space heaters to heat a large are like my basement without making a blanket fort? just for fun.
Why does my outlet get hot and let off a smell when I plug in a space heater?
I plug in a space heater and my outlet gets hot and lets off a smell. What do I need to do to the outlet so I can use a space heater on it without fear of burning my house down?
Space heater for home? Infrared heater? Does it work and live up to all the claims?
