Question: Draining a water heater?

If you drain a water heater of the impediments? that gather on bottom, does this improve having hot water longer when taking a shower? oh boy, i meant sediments, what was i thinking, it's late.

If you have an Electric water heater draining the sediment will help prolong the life of the lower heating element & allow it to function better than if it is immersed in the sediment thereby prolonging the life of the water heater.

It may help but if there is a lot of sediment in the bottom of the tank it would probably mean that it is time for a new water heater.

I think they recommend draining them once every two years. That will make the unit itself last longer. Turn up the thermostat to get it to produce hot water longer.
