Yes, you can replace just the element. Best of all, it should still be under warranty.

What says lower element? elements are cheap and easy to replace. $15-$20 i would suggest getting the special wrench to take it off and replace it. its very worth the $5 The lower heating element does not come on until the upper heating element is at full temp. both do no come on at once. You can test the element with a resistance tester. unscrew the wires off the element (make sure power is off) if your tester show a complete circuit it is not broke.
