Whirlpool hot water heater pilot went out?

Question: Whirlpool hot water heater pilot went out?

(Posted by: on 2010-04-06 09:59:28)

It's about 3 years old. The pilot just went out on its own. It relights and then I can turn the knob to "ON " and turn the thermostat to "HOT. " The burner comes on, but when it goes off the pilot goes out again.

Is the pilot flame blue(no orange or yellow in it)?If not then the pilot hole needs to be cleaned till it is.If that doesn't fix it then get the thermocouple replaced.

Your water heater is still under warranty from whirlpool, and since it is only three years old it should have a sealed burner compartment and must be serviced by a licensed plumber. The problem most likely is going to be with the cover itself, if it is not properly sealed, the burner system will not work properly. Whirlpool has a telephone number printed directly on the water heater. Good luck.
